1. Purpose
Meridian HealthCare Services Ltd is committed to ensuring all staff are equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and competencies to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care. This policy sets out our approach to mandatory training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to promote a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all employees, including temporary, permanent, bank, and agency staff, across all functions of Meridian HealthCare Services Ltd.
3. Policy Statement
We will provide all staff with access to high-quality training and CPD opportunities that:
Meet statutory and regulatory requirements
Align with best practices in the health and social care sector
Reflect the values of person-centred care and professional development
4. Responsibilities
Management:
Ensure mandatory training is completed within specified timeframes
Provide access to CPD opportunities and record-keeping systems
Monitor compliance and address any training deficiencies
Staff:
Complete all required training within deadlines
Actively engage in CPD and maintain accurate personal records
Reflect on learning to improve practice and care delivery

6. Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Staff are encouraged to participate in CPD activities beyond mandatory training, including:
Reflective practice
Attending conferences or webinars
Participating in mentoring or coaching
Reading professional journals or literature
Enrolling in accredited health and care qualifications (e.g. NVQs, Diplomas)
Minimum CPD Expectation:
All care staff: 20 CPD hours annually
Registered Nurses: In line with NMC revalidation requirements (35 CPD hours every 3 years)
7. Monitoring and Compliance
Training records are maintained centrally and reviewed quarterly
Compliance is monitored via internal audits and quality assurance checks
Non-compliance is addressed through supervision, support, or disciplinary procedures
8. Document Control
This policy will be reviewed annually or earlier if legislation, best practice, or operational needs require.
